A1274 - Food derived from disease-resistant banana line QCAV-4

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has approved an application from the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to permit food derived from a banana line genetically modified (GM) for resistance to Panama disease.

Banana line QCAV-4 is the first whole GM fruit assessed and approved by FSANZ and the first GM banana approved in the world.

The Australian and New Zealand Food Ministers did not seek a review of the GM banana's approval for food use.

A1291 - Glucoamylase from GM Aspergillus niger (gene donor: Gloeophyllum sepiarium) as a processing aid

This application seeks to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit glucoamylase from Aspergillus niger to be used as a processing aid in brewing process, baking processes, starch processing and distilled alcohol processing.

A1270 - Food derived from herbicide-tolerant and insect-protected corn line DP51291

​​​​This application seeks approval for the sale and use of food derived from corn line DP51291, genetically modified for herbicide-tolerance and protection from insect pests.​​ This application is the second to be assessed under the FSANZ-Health Canada safety assessment sharing initiative. For this application, FSANZ undertook the food safety assessment and provided it to Health Canada for review.
