Country of origin labelling requirements in Australia
The Australian Government introduced a country of origin food labelling system under Australian Consumer Law on 1 July 2016. Country of origin labelling requirements for food is in the Country of Origin Food Labelling Information Standard 2016, under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
These requirements became mandatory on 1 July 2018. At the same time, the Food Standards Code was amended to remove country of origin labelling requirements.

Country of origin labelling requirements in New Zealand
Requirements for country of origin labelling of certain foods were introduced in New Zealand on 12 February 2022. Information about these requirements is available on the Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment website.
In New Zealand, grape wine must also be labelled with its country or countries of origin. Further information on grape wine labelling can be found on the Ministry for Primary Industries website.
All food must be labelled with the contact details of the food supplier in New Zealand or Australia so consumers can contact the supplier and request further details about the food.
