Second call for comment on review of infant formula standards Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for submissions on its assessment of standards for infant formula products. FSANZ has reviewed infant formula standards in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) through Proposal P1028 - Infant formula. The review assessed the current regulatory framework incorporating standards for safety, food technology, nutrient composition, labelling and product representation. Second call for comment - Plain English Allergen Labelling Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released a second call for comment on a proposal to make allergen information clearer, more consistent and prominent on food labels. Second call for comment on soy leghemoglobin permission Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released a second call for public comment on an application to permit soy leghemoglobin from a genetically modified strain of yeast for use in meat analogue (or meat substitute) products. Update on national recall of poppy seeds Australian food authorities today announced preliminary findings on the cause of contamination which led to a national recall of poppy seeds. While investigations are ongoing, it has been confirmed a batch of poppy seeds not intended for food use and containing high levels of thebaine entered the supply chain. Thebaine is a natural chemical found in poppy seeds which can be toxic in high concentrations. A total of 37 cases of illness were reported nationally among people who consumed large amounts of poppy seeds.
