New partnership heralds start of work on Australia's Branded Food Database Work has commenced on a public online database of Australian branded food products. Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is partnering with GS1 Australia (GS1), a not-for-profit provider of product identification and information services, to develop the Branded Food Database. The database will provide a central source of brand-specific information for Australian foods and beverages to help people make informed decisions about the products they buy and support public health initiatives such as the Health Star Rating system and the Healthy Food Partnership. New requirements for allergen labelling on packaged foods Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today announced new requirements for allergen labelling on packaged foods. The changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) will help ensure mandatory food allergen declarations are clear and consistent so that consumers have the information they need to make safe food choices. The requirements include:
- the declaration of allergen information in a specific format and location on food labels
- the use of simple, plain English terms for allergen declarations.

Results of 27th Australian Total Diet Study released Published 10 December 2021 The results show that Australian consumers' exposure to PFAS through food is very low and poses no food safety concerns. Results of latest Australian Total Diet Study released Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released the results from its 26th Australian Total Diet Study (ATDS) which looked at levels of persistent organic pollutants including dioxins, dioxin-like compounds and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in food. Second call for comment on soy leghemoglobin permission Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) today released a second call for public comment on an application to permit soy leghemoglobin from a genetically modified strain of yeast for use in meat analogue (or meat substitute) products.
