Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comment on an application to permit the use of a processing aid for use in brewing.
The application is seeking approval of an enzyme sourced from a genetically modified (GM) microorganism, GM Trichoderma reesei (T. reesei), containing the prolyl oligopeptidase gene from Aspergillus niger (A. niger).
The enzyme is proposed for use as a processing aid in the production of brewed beverages.
Based on FSANZ’s assessment, no public health and safety concerns were identified under the proposed use conditions.
