This Notification Circular includes notices that are required to be given to the public, submitters and appropriate government agencies, under the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991 (FSANZ Act).

Amendment No. 206
Public notice of the approval for a draft variation under section 97 of the FSANZ Act
FSANZ has approved the following draft variation under paragraph 97(1)(b) of the FSANZ Act.
- Proposal P1057- Review of the kava standard: To review the regulation of kava in the Code to ensure it adequately addresses public health and safety-related to the potential increased availability of kava to the wider community.
The public notice is given pursuant to subsection 97(4) of the FSANZ Act.
The approved draft variation will take effect on Wednesday 23 March 2022.

- Application A1220- Beta-amylase from GM Bacillus licheniformis: To permit the use of beta-amylase from a genetically modified strain of Bacillus licheniformis in starch processing for maltose syrup production

- Application A1221- Phospholipase A1 from GM Aspergillus niger: To permit the use of phospholipase A1 from a genetically modified strain of Aspergillus niger as a processing aid during degumming of vegetable oils and fats.

- Application A1223- Glutaminase from Aspergillus niger: To permit the enzyme glutaminase sourced from Aspergillus niger as a processing aid for use in the production of certain seasoning ingredients

General procedure
- Proposal M1020 - Maximum Residue Limits (2021): This Proposal will consider varying Schedule 20 in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) to align MRLs with those established by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), Codex or trading partner standards for the requested agvet chemicals for food import purposes.

Information Publication Scheme - Important information for applicants and submitters
Under the Information Publication Scheme, all applications to change the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, as well as submissions on applications and proposals, will be published on our website.
We will not publish any material provided in-confidence. Application documents will be published when we call for submissions. Where large numbers of documents are involved, FSANZ will make these available on request, rather than publishing on the website. Submissions are published as soon as possible after the end of the public comment period.

Withdrawn application
The following application has been withdrawn by the applicant
- Application A1234 - Lactobacillus fermentum CECT5716 Lc40 as a Novel Food: To permit the voluntary addition of the probiotic Lactobacillus fermentum CECT516 Lc40 to infant formula products, and fermented milk products (yoghurt).
Amendment to Standard 1.4.2 - Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) [Australia only]
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has notified FSANZ of applications or variations to the APVMA MRL Standard that the APVMA considers will likely result in variations to Schedule 20 of Standard 1.4.2 if they are granted.

The APVMA has called for public comment on a number of proposed variations to Schedule 20 of Standard 1.4.2. Information can be found on the APVMA website.
